Policies

Obtaining a library card: Residents

Anyone seeking to obtain a library card will be required to present a photo ID and evidence of residence. Illustrative forms of residence identification include: utility bill; voter ID card; blank check. Library cards will be issued to residents of the Village of Shabbona free of charge and shall allow for borrowing privileges at all participating public libraries in the regional library system.

 

Obtaining a library card: Non-Residents

In accordance with ILCS 16/30-55.60 individuals living outside of the village limits may also apply for a library card as long as Flewellin Memorial Library is the closest public library to their residence within the Indian Creek School District boundary. The nonresident card shall allow for borrowing privileges at all participating public libraries in the regional library system. The charge for a nonresident card is $75.00 per household per 12 month period. The nonresident fee will be reviewed and/or changed annually.

 

Cardholder Responsibility

Cardholders are responsible for any items borrowed on their card, including replacement costs for lost or damaged items.Patrons of the Flewellin Memorial Library are encouraged to return their borrowed materials by the stamped due date.The check out period for books and magazines is TWO weeks. Overdue items will be assessed a late fee at a rate of 10 cents per day not including days when the library is closed. Items may be renewed if no other patrons have placed a hold on the item. A maximum of 4 DVD or Blue Rays may be borrowed at one time.


Suspension of library privileges will occur if the patron has unpaid overdue fines of $5.00 or more, or has damaged item fees totaling $15.00 or more.


Library staff asks that all visitors to the library respect others by behaving appropriately within the library confines.
